JOINT: Jewish Joint Distribution Committee
The St.Petersburg branch of the charitable fund “Joint” has been working in the North Western region of Russia since 1991. The JDC is a global organization that helps Jews all over the world. During over 20 years of work in the region, the JDC has created a far-reaching network of organizations that are bringing charitable programs supporting vulnerable population groups to realization including programs for elders, children, and people with disabilities. Some organizations include: Abram, Hesed Yeva, Jewish Family Service and others.
One of the flagship projects of the JDC in St.Petersburg is the Jewish Cultural Center YESOD, which opened in March 2006. YESOD’s goal was to provide for the current and future needs of the Jewish community of St. Petersburg. Since its opening the functions of YESOD have by far surpassed the limits of this assignment. Having united the greatest Jewish organizations of the city under one roof, the mission of YESOD is to enrich community life, and to attract new members with the help of exciting programs. One example is the Lehava program: a unique educational course on youth community leadership led by prominent specialists from Russia and Israel.
